Our Team

Randy Hein

Pastoral Staff

For over 30 years, Randy has been a pastor and has engaged in creative ministry endeavours in Victoria – a city that he loves. Together, with a grassroots group of leaders, he helped plant Hollydene Community Church in the summer of 2014. While providing leadership in several national networks, it’s the local scene that has his heart: the local church, the local arts scene, local justice issues, and local cafes. He has an interest in leadership development and desires to see young leaders mentored relationally, growing theologically and engaged socially. Randy holds a Doctorate in Ministry and continues to be a life-long learner. On days off, you will find him reading theology (yup, he’s a nerd), hiking PKOLS, or playing his guitar with the local street community. He lives with his wife Marcy and enjoys making meals for his three adult children.

Kathleen Busch

Pastoral Staff

Kathleen Busch serves at Hollydene in Spiritual Formation and Community Development, where she enjoys helping people encounter God in creative and meaningful ways. She oversees children’s ministry leadership and provides direction for small groups, newcomer gatherings, administration, and retreats, with a heart for building strong teams and vibrant community life.

She is the founder of Vista—the Vancouver Island School of Theology and the Arts—and organizes bi-annual conferences that explore important theological questions for the church today. Kathleen holds a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation and Leadership from Portland Seminary and is currently studying art therapy. Her life and leadership are shaped by experiences that have deepened her commitment to reconciliation, justice, inclusion, and communities that reflect Christ’s expansive love.

James Prette

Pastoral Staff

With over 45 years of ministry experience, Dr. James A. Prette has a passion to help people understand the good news of the Christian Faith. Having ministered primarily with youth, he has worked hard to learn how to communicate the eternal truth of the Gospel in the continually changing context and language of contemporary culture. James spent decades on staff with Young Life, serving in Kelowna, Vancouver, and Victoria. From 2004-2015 he served as the National Director of Spiritual Foundations and the Director of Staff Education and Training for Young Life of Canada. James has been a sessional teacher at Fuller Seminary, Regent College, and ACTS Seminary and he was involved with the leadership teams of two church plants.  He is currently a ‘pastor emeritus’ at Hollydene Community Church, a spiritual director, and the author of nine books.  His favourite thing is to dialogue with real people about real issues of life and faith. James lives with his wife Liz in Victoria, BC.  They have three adult children.

Liz Scott

Pastoral Staff

Liz is a wife to Kevin and a mom to Emmett, Wesley, and Lewis. Liz has a Master of Counselling through the University of Lethbridge, a Master of Theological Studies from McMaster University, and an undergraduate arts degree and a teaching degree from the University of Victoria. Liz worked for Young Life Canada and was a high school teacher before moving into Clinical Counselling. Liz has been saved by grace, but only really got what that means after she had children. She likes telling others about God's grace, because it changed her life. Liz's spiritual practices include dancing, sleeping, being quiet, looking at the water, laughing, and saying, "Help me" and "Thank you” to God. She feels in her bones that God really loves her, and that helps her not take herself too seriously. Liz is privileged to serve Hollydene and be part of such a wonderful Christ seeking community.

Bradford Sinclair

Communications

Bradford has had a varied history in the Church. Beginning in a local Charismatic community in 1998, he later moved to a Baptist church at 19 to become a youth leader. In 2013 he participated in Camp Imadene’s discipleship program, Auxano, and in 2015 moved to Australia to attend Hillsong Leadership College. Upon returning from Australia, Bradford began a career in tech that lasted until accepting the Communications role at Hollydene in 2025. This coincided with his decision to leave tech and pursue a career in counselling. Bradford is currently studying Psychology and plans to use his education, skillset, and expertise to support the local church. When he’s not working or studying, he is likely spending time outdoors with his Australian Shepherd, Joey. Bradford loves the family of Hollydene just as much as he loves meeting new people. He also does not care whether you call him Bradford or Brad.

Becky Lubbers

Worship Coordinator

Originally hailing from Ottawa, Becky Lubbers joined the Hollydene family back in 2024. You can most often find her making dinner, doing dishes, eating good food with friends, or planning when her next dinner is going to be. Becky coordinates our musical worship volunteers, and a few other elements of our Sunday Morning Worship Gatherings. She gives much credit of her formation to many communities - the Quest program at Columbia Bible College, the A Rocha BC Center, SALTS, and many others who along the way have impacted the way she roots herself in the present moment.

Valerie Blenkin

Children’s Ministry

Valerie has been part of the Hollydene community for four years. She is the mother of three and also has three precious grandchildren.

After completing a Teacher Training course at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Valerie created and taught an early childhood music program in preschools, daycares, and elementary schools throughout the Greater Victoria area for many years.

Valerie brings her teaching experience and her love of children to her role as Kids’ Church Preschool and Elementary Grades Coordinator. She is dedicated to helping Kids’ Church teachers and helpers create a safe, engaging, and fun space where children can learn about a God who deeply loves them and know they are a cherished part of the community.

Ernie Fraser

Vision Team

Ernie grew up on a farm in New Brunswick and has been actively involved with church throughout his life, serving in leadership and other roles. His other volunteer pursuits have included Victoria Hospice Society board, Young Life Victoria committee, Habitat for Humanity team leader on 20 build trips domestically and internationally. He has volunteered for three extended periods at the Corrymeela Community peace and reconciliation centre in Northern Ireland. Ernie believes that being an encourager and providing a “hand up” to others is an important aspect of living the gospel. He has been part of the Hollydene community from its earliest days – among the things that attract him to the community are the diversity of people, interpersonal connections and the post-sermon sharing. Ernie loves being a grandfather and spending time with his three grandchildren and their parents. He also enjoys walking/hiking long distances, and has completed seven Camino walks in Spain and Portugal.
